Marlen Esparza Stops Campana at LA Fight Club
Los Angeles (April 06, 2018)- Since winning bronze at the 2012 games in London, Marlen Esparza (5-0 1KO) has slowly fought five fights on high profile cards over the last two years since turning pro after not making the 2016 Olympic team. Compared to her male prospect counter-parts that fight four to five times a year the development of Esparza has been slow going.

Leatizia Campana (2-5) was just what the doctor ordered for Esparza. She was raw, and didn’t have much to offer in terms of skill against a world class athlete. 11 seconds into the third round referee Jack Reiss had seen enough and stopped the bout.
Esparza pushed the pace with an aggressive stalking style. Firing crisp one-two combinations and working hooks downstairs and upstairs. Esparza’s talent was undeniable.
In attendance fellow female fighter and headliner of the LA Fight Club series Seniesa “Super Bad” Estrada was in attendance and fired shots at Esparza saying “I expect her to win. Her opponent was 2-4. She was 40 years old. She hasn’t fought in two years, so of course I was expecting that to happen.”
“I’m not worried about Seniesa, she’s here for me. I’m not worried about her.” Said Esparza during her post fight interview.
Estrada commented on an Instagram post about Esparza down-playing her skills to start the buzz that filled the Belasco theatre for a card that only featured three fights.
San Antonio prospect Hector “El Finito” Tanajara Jr. (13-0 5KO’s) ground his way through eight rounds for a unanimous decision victory over Ensenada Mexico’s Hector Ambriz (12-5-1 6KO’s). Ambriz gave tough, challenging work over the entire eight bout forcing the cards.

Tanajara showed he can keep his poise and patience when his opponent doesn’t drop. After eight rounds Tajara rolled to a shutout on scores 80-72 on all three cards.
Super bantamweight Jose Vargas (4-0 3KO’s) wasted no time dispatching sacrificial lamb Jorge Careaga 1-2. Vargas fired with bad intentions for all of the forty seconds it took to end the fight on a left hook to the body. Careaga wouldn’t get up after the full count, granting the Pasadena prospect the victory.
