Gilberto Ramirez Stops Unknown Ahmed

Corpus Christi, TX 3 February, 2018- Unknown Habib Ahmed 25-1-1 17KO’s flew all the way from Ghana to face Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez 37-0 25 KO’s in hopes of winning his first world title. Ahmed then flew all the way back to Ghana empty handed.

Unable to land a significant fight in the Super Middleweight division Ramirez was fed a stay busy fight as the line of “great champions have come from Ghana in the past” was fed to the audience. Ramirez knew, the audience knew, and Ahmed’s corner knew that was a load of bull. Ramirez stayed busy and got a handful of rounds in during a six round stoppage of Ahmed.

Visually the fight wasn’t close as the difference in class was cringe-worthy in making you think, “why the hell is Ramirez even entertaining these fights?” The politics of boxing may be assassinating what should be one of the most entertaining fighters of a hot division. Ramirez throws a ton of punches and was in an exciting back and forth battle with promoter Top Rank’s only other Super Middleweight contender Jesse Hart last year.

Unable to get a significant fight Top Rank did the right thing by getting there investment a televised fight against an opponent whom he would stop on the largest sports network in the world. It’s unfortunate though, we had to watch it.
